ABOUT JACINTA O’CONNELL
So who am I and what is my story?
My accounting journey began as the office junior in an entertainment chartered accounting firm in the early 1990s. For over 15 years my career has primarily involved administering the financial, taxation and business affairs of many leading Australian entertainers, media professionals and artistic businesses in well respected entertainment accountancy practices. It has also extended to working in other industries notably medical, retail, multimedia and construction.
After initially being in denial that accountancy was my calling I enrolled in and qualified as the ‘top student’ in my year with a Diploma in Public Relations. These PR skills proved to be extremely beneficial in the business I co-owned at the time as we diversified our service base. From pure accounting I progressed into publicising some major tour campaigns for many leading Australian artists. I continue to use these skills in both my own business and when working with clients.
With time I realised that while I enjoy PR and marketing, being hands on, advising, contributing and making a financial difference in a client’s business is what I truly loved. This ongoing commitment to clients and maintaining my professional development saw me qualify with the UNSW University Medal in their Bachelor of Taxation degree followed closely by qualifying as a CPA.
It did not stop there though, as my interest in training and development lead me to complete a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, an area I intend to pursue further as I love working with people and imparting knowledge to others. Watch this space!
I established Calculated Business Consulting (CBC) in 2006 with the aim of providing my extensive financial, taxation, business and management expertise to the media and entertainment industry in a personalised, logical, professional and timely manner. How often have I heard a client say that their accountant cannot translate the complexity of business into a language they understand or that they simply cannot relate to them? This is CBC’s differentiating factor as I fully understand the difficulties facing the creative personalities of these small business entrepreneurs.
I take pride in setting myself the highest standards to ensure that the work I produce is of a consistently high quality. I work with a team of likeminded professionals to guarantee that your business obtains consistently up to date quality advice and services in a variety of areas.
